Credit report dispute letter generator
Found a mistake in your CIBIL or other credit report? Fill in a few details and get a clear letter asking your bank or lender to correct it. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Your letter
How to use it
- Send the letter to your bank or lender's grievance or nodal officer, by email or through its complaint page, with your documents. Keep the acknowledgement or complaint number.
- Also raise a dispute on the credit bureau's own website, for example CIBIL's dispute page. The bureau checks with the lender.
- Note the date. Under RBI's compensation framework for credit information, if a complaint is not resolved within 30 calendar days, the lender or bureau responsible for the delay must pay you ₹100 for each day of delay. The lender has 21 days and the bureau 9 days of that period.
- If you do not get a satisfactory answer, you can complain to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.
What a dispute can and cannot do
A dispute corrects wrong information. Correct information, such as a genuinely late payment, cannot be removed, and anyone who promises to delete it for a fee is a red flag. Read how to get your free credit report and how to improve a low CIBIL score honestly. Want help? Ask for free credit help.
