How to write a job post that attracts good applicants

A practical template for employers: job title, pay, responsibilities, requirements and how to apply, written so the right people apply and the wrong ones do not.

A clear job post saves you time twice: better candidates apply, and people who are not a fit can see that before applying. Here is what to include, in the order candidates look for it.

1. A plain job title

Use the title people actually search for, such as "Sales Executive" or "Junior Web Developer", not internal names such as "Growth Ninja". Add the level if it helps: intern, junior, senior.

2. Location and work mode

Say where the work happens: the city and country for on-site or hybrid roles, and which countries or time zones you can hire from for remote roles. Candidates filter by this first.

3. Pay

Include a pay range and the period (per month or per year). Posts with pay usually receive more relevant applications, and candidates whose expectations are far outside your range can skip the role.

4. What the person will do

List four to seven concrete responsibilities, starting with the ones that take most of the week. "Handle 30 to 40 customer chats a day" says more than "customer-focused mindset".

5. What they need, and what is optional

Separate must-have requirements from nice-to-haves. Long lists of required skills put off capable people who meet most but not all of them.

6. Who you are

Two or three sentences about the company, the team and why the role exists. Link to your website so candidates can check you are real.

7. How to apply and what happens next

Give one clear way to apply (a link or an email address), say what to include (CV, portfolio, a short note) and roughly how long you take to respond. Never ask applicants to pay anything; genuine candidates will leave, and on MyDealNinja the listing will be removed.
